SINGER PROFILES
FREDERICK F. BUTLER '68 ....Fred was appointed by Governor Whitman in April, 1999 as a Commissioner (one of only three) with the State of New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU). The BPU comprises many divisions including Telecommunications, Energy, Cable Television, Communications, Water & Wastewater and Customer Relations. The Commissioners meet bi-weekly and are charged with oversight of public utilities within the New Jersey administered through the BPU's numerous bureaus. Website: www.njin.net/njpbu/... Prior to his appointment, Fred served from 1982 to 1999, in varying capacities, with the NJ General Assembly Democratic Office, his latest position being Executive Director overseeing a staff of 25. He served in the latter capacity for some eight years providing staff support to the Democratic members of the General Assembly. Fred began his career in 1969 as a teacher in a bilingual Washington, DC public school during which time he attended Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies graduating in 1973 with an MA in International Politics. From there he moved on to the Eagleton Institute of Politics of Rutgers University during which time studied toward a Ph.D. At Eagleton Fred\rquote s duties included serving as Coordinator for the Program Review in Education and Social Services and consulting the legislatures of over a dozen states. After Eagleton, he served from 1979 to 1982 as Deputy Director of the NJ Commission on Capital Budgeting where he was responsible for the development of the long-range Capital Improvement Program for the State of NJ....Fred has performed (and still does) with many regional choral societies within NJ and served as a past Trustee of Princeton Pro Musica. Fred and his wife Carol live in Plainsboro, NJ.
CHARLES R. BROCKMAN '57... Chuck is President of Re-Start Temps, Camp Hill, PA. Founded in 1988, Re-Start is engaged in the business of providing temporary and consulting employment to older Americans. Since inception, more than 4,000 older workers have worked for Re-Start. The Commonwealth of PA has honored both Chuck and the company with the "Grand Champion of Older Workers" award. In 1992, Chuck was recognized as "Social Entrepreneur of the Year in Central Pennsylvania" jointly by Merrill Lynch, Ernst & Young and Inc. magazine. After graduation, Chuck served in the US Navy for six years and participated in nuclear weapons atmospheric testing programs. Upon release from the Navy, he entered the computer industry serving in various management capacities with Honeywell and RCA. In 1982 Chuck left the corporate world to start an executive recruiting firm in Philadelphia specializing in the placement of computer professionals. In 1988, he relocated to central PA and founded Re-Start. He has since dedicated his efforts to furthering Re-Start's mission. Chuck is president and co-founder of the Partnership for Aging Services, Inc., a non-profit organization providing financial assistance to older Pennsylvanians and is co-founder of EXPO 50+, an exposition of services provided to older Pennsylvanians. He is a committee member of the Pennsylvania Economic Task Force and was a delegate to the White House Mini-Conference on Aging. Chuck produces live theater productions in Harrisburg and Philadelphia drawing on his Belle Masque experiences. Chuck was also a former officer and Board Member of the Harrisburg Community Theatre. Chuck and his wife, Betty-Jane live in Mechanicsburg, PA.
Dr. Richard Dressler '58 has been singing with St. Monica's choir (Berwyn, PA) since 1973.
Aurelio Pontarelli '69 .( a.k.a. "The Crown Prince of Angora" etc. )...is President of Ring 6 of the International Brotherhood of Magicians and won top honors at last year's Close-up competition.
Bob Seraphin's '69 oldest daughter, Rachel, recently completed her freshman year at VU. ...So did Tom Westhoff's '66 daughter, Charlotte.
The Villanova Women's Glee Club is now known as the Villanova Voices!
